In the Studio… Delight in the Lord

My studio has been the most fun place to be lately! My heart is doing the happy dance and I’m trying to savor every moment!

IMG_0098
I thought you might enjoy seeing a little bit of the process on this one!  I loved the brown paper doily in the lower right corner but felt I needed to leave the space lighter for the addition of words so I’m saving it for another day!

Coffee Delight 02At this stage I’m liking the red and white striped vase but…

Coffee Delight 03… I knew I wanted to add the heart… so I traded in the bright red stripes for black and am happy with it. I love the line art in the lower corner in lieu of the doily. Line art has always been so much of who I am that I feel like it adds a special dimension of “me” to the painting. I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone else but it’s like adding my signature touch to it and it feels good.

Delight Yourself in the Lord CoffeeAdded the finishing touch… a verse that so encourages my heart… “delight yourself in the Lord… and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4.  And I always want to finish that verse with… “desires you don’t even know you have!” because that’s exactly what He’s done for me! He has filled my heart with such joy and blessings… not because of what I’ve accomplished but knowing that He is the One who has given me everything I need in order to accomplish those things He has created me to do… the desires of His heart became the desires of my heart!!

And I leave you with this little doodle love to encourage your heart and lift up your soul! God is our shield and strength in times of trouble… He is the lifter of our heads… and that my friends is something to stop and ponder and CELEBRATE!

(And before you ask… yes… someday she will most likely become a coloring page!)

Berry_Swirl_BorderBye for now… with love and God-hugs

“Talk with God…..He wants to hear your heart.”
“Quiet times help our hearts to hear the Lord.”
The following quote is a signature one of mine that I have shared with friends for years….
“Have a better than average full of God’s blessings kind of a day.”
Whatever you choose, will be perfect.

    Karla,
I am also glad you are back on your Blog. I don’t do Facebook either. Psalm 37:6: Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. This is one idea for words on your painting. I know what God gives you will be perfect. I look forward to seeing your new creations on Etsy. Blessings in the new year, Ann

    Hello Karla,
What a fun experience seeing the way you developed your painting. Yes, I agree, the line drawing in the corner is a must. It is “you”, and it is wonderful!
Also, I must tell you, that I had so many people try to take my new snowgirl and my other snowpeople this year. They all wanted some and wanted to know where they could get them. But, as the season comes to a close, they are still safely here with me, and a lot more know about you and your fabulous gifts of art and blessings.
What a fun and busy time this Christmas was. James is now safely back in Tokyo, and as it always does, the days he was home just flew by, but I made it a determined effort to focus on each moment and not think about him leaving in just a few days and therefore each minute was so precious.
Sending love and hugs and happy and joyfilled moments to you in this New Year of 2014.
    Barbara

So my daughter… @michelleallenart is the one who So my daughter… @michelleallenart is the one who encouraged me to do this challenge… and she is beyond day 33. Me… day 17! The days just go by so quickly and… to be honest… there’s been days I’ve just made excuses not to go to the studio because I’m not happy with what I’m painting and I’ve been frustrated. However… I know God has a plan here so I’m not giving up… so stay tuned.

Love you my friends for your encouragement!

I pruned my lantana shrubs a few days ago and tuck I pruned my lantana shrubs a few days ago and tucked a few of the trimmings in this adorable little vase and couldn’t resist trying to paint them.

I also discovered that lantanas symbolize fierce love and wild energy! Oh goodness… wild energy seems so long ago! Haha! But what joy is ours when we are fiercely in love with the Lord! Amen?

Hmmm… I was thinking about adding a pattern to the tablecloth but maybe a verse about love would be better. Any suggestions?

My pomegranate tree has more flowers this year tha My pomegranate tree has more flowers this year than last, and I’m praying a few of the blossoms hold on and actually develop into fruit! Made me think of how God looks at us… wanting us to hold on to Him in faith so that we too can bear fruit… for His glory. Inspired by Jesus’ fig tree parable in Luke 13 if you want to go check it out.

And who knew there were pomegranate songs? Haha!

Did you know that when Jesus was talking about the Did you know that when Jesus was talking about the “lilies of the field” in Luke 12… He was most likely directing their gaze to the rivers of scarlet poppies blooming on the hillside nearby? Of course, since I’m presently painting florals, I couldn’t resist the poppy.

I shared more about God’s encouragement through this passage in my newsletter last Monday if you’re interested. (Link in bio)

My 100 Day Project was rudely interrupted last wee My 100 Day Project was rudely interrupted last week by a nasty little bug that rendered me worthless on every level! However… I’m better and back it!

This one is 16x20 and because I wrote my own rules and count a day… not by a painting finished… but by days spent in the studio…it represents days 11, 12, and 13. I must admit… I’m enjoying this challenge more than I expected. Yay and thank You Lord.

What do you think?

I know I’m not following all the rules but havin I know I’m not following all the rules but having this nudge to get out in the studio and just paint whatever feels good. Even though I do see some designs that might be nice for notecards, that’s not my reason for doing this.

I want to play and maybe find my new style that fits with this new season of my life. Even at 74 yo, it’s never too late to learn something new and it’s okay to just play. True?

Curious… are you learning something new today?
