Growing in Grace

Grace.

God’s unmerited favor. His gift of unconditional love, forgiveness, and acceptance.

Even when we don’t deserve it. Even we mess up. Even when we fail. God’s grace is enough.

And just like every other gift God gives us… it’s not for us to hold onto but it’s also for us to give away.

Have you ever failed to keep a promise or fallen short of a friend’s expectations of who you should be?
I know I have. I’ve even lost friends because they were not able to forgive my mistakes or,
in some cases, accept me for who I am. I know… it can be hard!

I remember when I disappointed my friend Kathy. I didn’t mean to, of course. But I forgot to do
something I said I would do, and even though it was totally unintentional, she still had every right to
be upset. But instead of being angry, she responded with a smile. “It’s okay,” she said. “I give you grace.”

Amazing grace… how sweet the sound!
Hearing those words was like music to my ears. I was forgiven and accepted. Even though I had failed!

Like Kathy, when we accept and receive this precious gift from God through faith in Jesus,
it’s ours to embrace, to be grateful for, and to freely give to others… even when they don’t deserve it.

I wonder. Have any of your friends ever failed or disappointed you? Showed up late? Forgotten
your birthday? Hurt your feelings? We already know the answer, don’t we?
The truth is… we are all imperfect people, and we all make mistakes.
And we all need grace, don’t we? From God and from one another!
Today is a good day to grow in grace by sowing it into the life of someone you know.

There is only one Friend who will never fail you… and His Name is Jesus!
For all your other friends… give them grace!
